Colchester City Council is thrilled to announce the search for a new partner to help shape the future of Holy Trinity Church, the city's oldest standing building and a Grade I listed heritage site.
With a significant £2.8 million transformation planned by 2026, this historic landmark is set to undergo a restoration that will breathe new life into the space.
Located in the heart of the city, the Holy Trinity Church project has received backing from the Government and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with further funding applications in progress. This is a tremendous opportunity for an arts, heritage, community, or volunteer sector partner to take the lead in envisioning sustainable uses for the building that align with the community's needs and priorities.
Candidates will be required to develop a long-term plan that not only pays homage to the church’s rich history but also ensures it serves the community effectively - supporting local culture through activities such as concerts, events, and possibly even a community cafe. However, applicants do not need to present fully worked up and costed proposals now as part of their submission and will be supported in this activity. Rather, applicants need to show creative and imaginative uses of the space.
Expressing her excitement, Cllr Natalie Sommers, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “The Saxon Tower of Holy Trinity Church, which dates to the 11th century, is an integral part of our city’s history. We are eager to see what potential partners bring to the table in terms of ideas for the building’s use – whether that be through community focused activities, performances, or innovative projects that we haven’t even envisioned yet. The ideal partner will respect Colchester’s proud heritage while enriching our community through meaningful initiatives.”
Colchester City Council is seeking a qualified partner to operate and manage Holy Trinity Church (Ref: 0407). This historic landmark presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the city's cultural vibrancy.
