Sustainability and Climate Action
The Council has been committed to reducing our environmental impact since 2008, when we set a target to reduce our emissions by 40% by 2020 and this target was met. We then declared a climate emergency in 2019, committing to a carbon neutral target for Council operations by 2030. Although this target is proving challenging to meet, we will continue with our actions and projects to achieve emission reductions.
Reaching our carbon neutral target is just one part of our work to take environmental action across Colchester. We are doing these actions for the benefit of the environment, but also to produce benefits for people’s physical and mental health, create jobs and help you save money.
