Visit Colchester has launched a new website, marking the sixth iteration since its launch in 1999. The latest site aims to enhance the user experience with new features, supporting the visitor economy and celebrating Colchester and the wider city area’s rich heritage and attractions.

Enhancements include a new homepage with engaging videography, an improved search function and a 'build a break' tool that allows visitors to ‘like’ listings and curate their itineraries. The platform continues to support the local tourism community directly, providing an extranet for attractions and accommodation providers to add events and manage their own listings and content. Additionally, the site can now integrate Facebook into venue pages, enabling users to engage instantly with local attractions and other businesses.

Since its release on 15 May, the updated site has seen a 20% increase in user engagement compared to the previous year, with visitors from around the globe exploring what the Colchester area has to offer. Top international users include visitors from the USA, Australia, the Netherlands and China, reflecting Colchester’s appeal beyond the domestic tourism market.

The updated website also introduces new branding for Visit Colchester, developed by the council’s in-house design team. The new logo features a column motif inspired by the Temple of Claudius, reflecting Colchester’s Roman heritage.

Cllr Alison Jay, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Transformation at Colchester City Council, said: "We are delighted to introduce our new branding and website, which not only showcase Colchester’s vibrant tourism offer but also improve accessibility and user interaction. This update underscores our commitment to promoting Colchester as a leading visitor destination."
