Hollytrees Museum, a much-loved historic treasure in Colchester, is set to undergo essential maintenance work starting on Monday, 8 July. The work, which focuses on the roof and upper areas, is crucial for protecting the building from water damage and ensuring the safety of its valuable collections.
This important project is supported by MEND funding from Arts Council England and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). The repairs will span several months, taking advantage of the dry weather over the Summer. During this period, Hollytrees Museum and the Visitor Information Centre will remain open to the public as usual. Visitors can continue to enjoy the museum’s engaging exhibits and the extensive resources of the Visitor Information Centre.
Hollytrees Museum, a beautiful Georgian townhouse dating back to 1718, has been a museum since 1929. It offers a unique journey through 300 years of history with hands-on exhibits and displays. Visitors can discover what family life was like for both the rich and the poor, try out a dolly peg, and even dress up as a servant. The museum also features a fascinating dolls' house, vintage toys, and games, and the Bernard Mason Gallery, which showcases an impressive collection of Colchester clocks from the mid-17th to the mid-19th century.

Located in the beautiful grounds of Castle Park, Hollytrees Museum is also home to the Visit Colchester Information Centre, the go-to place for information on visiting Colchester and the surrounding area, as well as for purchasing local gifts and souvenirs.
