Leisure World Colchester is proud to support Drowning Prevention Week which takes place from the 14 to 21 June. This is a national campaign led by the Royal Life Saving Society UK. As part of its commitment to community safety, Leisure World will be highlighting the importance of swimming lessons to help prevent drowning and promoting lifelong water confidence.
Throughout the week, swimming teachers will be raising awareness to parents of children enrolled in Leisure World’s swim school about the importance of lessons and how important continuation of these is until children are fully competent and safe in the water.
They will be highlighting why learning core water skills such as floating, safe entries and exits, and understanding the Water Safety Code is so important. Leisure World’s lessons are designed to empower young and adult swimmers with the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe in and around water.
For children with lessons between the 16-22 June please bring or wear light full-length pyjamas with swimsuits underneath for more practical learning. If children enjoy their Drowning Prevention Week lesson they can check out the Rookie Lifeguard Programme which runs at Leisure World on Sundays!
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods, and Leisure at Colchester City Council, said: “We believe every child should have access to water safety education and we are working with schools and our local community to raise awareness that swimming is not just a sport, it’s a life-saving skill. Parents are encouraged to speak to the Leisure World team about enrolling in our swim programme. They can also enrol online at www.colchesterleisureworld.co.uk/swimming-lessons-for-kids
"Let’s work together to ensure no child or adult drowns due to lack of water safety awareness."
