Colchester, one of Britain’s oldest recorded cities, is no stranger to ghostly tales and eerie legends, but this Halloween season, something truly terrifying is making its debut.
For the first time ever, Colchester Town Hall is opening its doors after dark for ‘Beware the Scare’, a spine-chilling immersive scare event designed to transport thrill-seekers into the depths of the city’s sinister past.
The Town Hall, with its combination of historic significance and architectural grandeur, provides the perfect backdrop for this unique event that combines history and horror. Visitors will be led through maze-like corridors and deserted rooms to explore parts of the building that have been closed to the public for years. In these eerie spaces, the darkest corners of Colchester's history will be brought to life using special effects and a team of actors from Castle Park Theatre.
Cllr Alison Jay, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Transformation, said: “’Beware the Scare’ is unlike any other Halloween event the city has seen. This is more than just a scare event – it’s a unique opportunity to experience history in a way that is both thrilling and insightful, offering a deeper appreciation of the glorious town hall and the city’s dark past. Colchester is the place to be for anyone looking for new ways to celebrate Halloween this October.”
The event takes place at Colchester Town Hall, High Street, Colchester, from 7pm each evening, between 25 October to 2 November 2024. Tickets are available now from www.colchester-events.co.uk/beware-the-scare
