Mayor of Colchester to welcome guests to Oyster Feast at Talbooth restaurant

PUBLISHED: 16 October 2024

Colchester’s traditional Oyster Feast returns on Friday, 25 October 2024. The feast will be held again at one of Colchester’s most prestigious venues, Talbooth restaurant in Dedham.

First held in 1845, the Oyster Feast has long been a cornerstone of Colchester’s civic calendar, celebrating the city’s rich heritage and strong community ties.

Traditionally held in the Town Hall, the feast has been relocated while extensive structural work in the Moot Hall continues Though the setting has changed, the spirit of the event remains true to its roots, bringing together many of Colchester’s diverse communities, and community leaders.

This year's feast promises an exciting new format, featuring the incredible magic of Michael J. Fitch M.I.M.C. and music from respected guitarist Chris Allard, Essex-based classically trained singer Rebecca Clemens, and Play Strings Academy. Guests will also have the opportunity to support the Mayor’s charities through a special Mayor's Charity Auction.

Among the Mayor’s other invited guests, who will be greeted by the Colchester Town Watch, are representatives from Colchester’s twin town Wetzler, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Mr Tim Stokes, High Steward of Colchester Sir Bob Russell, Cllr Pam Cox MP, and Garrison Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ed Rankin.

In time-honoured custom, the mayor will join attendees at the feast in sampling the city’s famous oysters.

The Mayor of Colchester said: “The Oyster Feast celebrates not just our city’s rich history and vibrant community, but also the culinary treasure that is the Colchester oyster.

“We are particularly excited to offer a different kind of entertainment this year, featuring the magical talents of Michael J. Fitch M.I.M.C. and live performances, as well as a charity auction to support some of the causes that are close to my heart and that matter to our city.

“We look forward to welcoming our guests, raising a glass, and of course, enjoying Colchester’s finest oysters.”
