A city ‘Fit for the Future’ Strategic Plan Delivery Plan refresh

Colchester City Council is set to review and update its Strategic Plan Delivery Plan (SPDP) during the upcoming Cabinet meeting on 23 October 2024. This crucial document details the council’s strategies for achieving the goals and objectives outlined in its Strategic Plan.

Building on the successes of the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, the updated SPDP is designed to address the evolving needs of Colchester’s growing population, ensuring the city remains competitive, sustainable, and resilient. The refreshed document includes a list of updated priority actions for 2024-2027, ensuring continued progress against the agreed priorities throughout and beyond the life of the Strategic Plan.

The updated plan underscores the council’s commitment to addressing its most pressing challenges, including the climate emergency, housing, economic growth, health and wellbeing, and celebrating the city’s rich cultural heritage.
 
Key priorities include:
  • Responding to the Climate Emergency: Developing green energy plans, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting active travel.
  • Delivering Homes for Those Most in Need: Increasing affordable housing through partnerships and sustainable development.
  • Improving Health, Wellbeing, and Happiness: Tackling inequality and supporting vulnerable communities in collaboration with key partners.
  • Growing the Economy: Strengthening the local economy through strategic investment and infrastructure development to benefit businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
  • Modernising Services: Enhancing the delivery of efficient, future-proof services using the latest technologies.
  • Celebrating Colchester’s Culture and Heritage: Strengthening the city's tourism sector, maintaining our heritage assets, and supporting local cultural initiatives.
 
Leader of Colchester City Council, Cllr David King, emphasised the importance of the plan: “Our city deserves the very best, and this refreshed plan ensures we can continue to work towards the outcomes that matter most to our residents and businesses. Realistic about our budget and improvements, but still ambitious.
